Sentate Bill 12

In compliance with Senate Bill 12, Chapel Hill ISD is requesting parent/guardian permission for students to take part in campus clubs and organizations, as well as to receive health and counseling services provided by district staff. These services may be offered by nurses, counselors, social workers, athletic trainers, or other licensed health and mental health professionals.

This law requires schools to ensure families are informed and provide written approval before support or care is given. In the event of a serious emergency, staff will take immediate action to protect your child and contact you as quickly as possible. Staff members may also check in verbally with students regarding their daily well-being.

Granting consent gives your child access to important services that promote safety, wellness, and academic success. Without consent, district staff will be restricted in the assistance they are able to provide during the school day.

During the 89th Texas Legislative Session, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 12, which requires schools to obtain parental consent each year before providing certain routine services. These include physical health care through our school nurses, mental health support through our school counselors, and student participation in school-based clubs.
