We aim to keep Chapel Hill ISD families informed with timely and accurate updates during inclement weather and other pressing events affecting schools and the community.

Update Published at 6:35 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3:

Electricity has been restored at Wise Elementary School and classes will resume today, Friday, Feb. 3. All students who are able to attend are welcome to come to school today.

Buses will run their normal routes, and if your child is able to get on a bus, that's great. If they are not able to, please contact the campus or the Transportation Department at (903)903-566-3776 for assistance.

Update Published at 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3:

Classes at Wise Elementary have been canceled for today, Feb. 3, due to the ongoing power outage. All other CHISD campuses will remain open and classes will run at their normal times. District officials are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates.

Classes and extracurricular activities  for all campuses except Wise Elementary will resume on Friday, Feb. 3, as scheduled. Wise Elementary families will need to wait until 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, for an update on the status of their campus.

Out of an abundance of caution and to support safe travel, all CHISD schools will begin classes with a two-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 2.

  • High School: 10:00 a.m. 

  • Junior High: 10:00 a.m.  

  • Kissam Intermediate: 9:50 a.m. 

  • Wise Elementary: 9:45 a.m.

  • Jackson Elementary: 9:45 a.m.

Out of an abundance of caution due to slick spots, icy bridges and overpasses, and power outages in the area, classes are cancelled for today, Feb. 1. District and campus offices will also be closed.
Please note that all after-school activities, athletic events, and extracurricular programs are also canceled for today.

Classes will proceed as normal as current weather reports in our area show no adverse conditions tomorrow, Jan. 31. However, District officials will continue to monitor the weather.

Chapel Hill ISD is aware of the winter storm warning until Wednesday morning and is attentively monitoring the situation. More information will be sent out this afternoon.

CHISD's Communication System:

Step 1. Our Transportation Departments begins monitoring road conditions as early as 4 a.m. in the event of evening/night weather disruptions. They assess rural roads, bridges, and other factors to ensure bus safety. 

Step 2. The Transportation Director shares the information with the Superintendent, Facilities and Operations Executive, CHISD Police Chief, and the Director of Communications. The Superintendent makes the final decision to announce a delayed opening or school closure.

Step 3. To quickly reach families, we use a combination of Alerts (phone calls, texts, emails, mobile app notifications), the website, Facebook page, and on our Twitter account.
