About Ms. Freeman

This is Melissa Freeman's third year at Chapel Hill High School. She teaches beginning, advanced and technical theatre, as well as debate.  She serves as the Terri Procell-Bowen Auditorium Coordinator, High School UIL Coordinator, Speaking Events Coach, One Act Play Director and sponsor of the Chapel Hill Players chapter of the Thespian Honor Society.

Ms. Freeman graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1987, and from Texas A&M in 1991 (WHOOP!). She taught at Arp and Troup before coming to Chapel Hill. Mrs. Freeman has two children and two dogs.

Course Descriptions

Theatre Arts I (0910)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
This course emphasizes:

  • an overview of all aspects of theatre (theatre history and script interpretation)
  • acting skills and improvisation
  • script analysis with emphasis on characterization

Theatre Arts II, III, IV (0920, 0930, 0940)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters    Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: Theatre Arts I and teacher approval; passing grades in all classes

Note: Participation in theatre productions and/or contests is required for credit.

These courses emphasize:

  • advanced study of acting
  • advanced study of production management
  • directing skills

Technical Theatre I, II, III (0980, 0951, 0952)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Theatre I and teacher interview/approval
This courses emphasizes:

  • overview of technical theatre
  • design of scenery, properties, costumes
  • construction techniques of scenery, properties, costumes
